Does a Laouto have a trust rod or some kind of carbon-filament strengthener in the neck? Are the frets tied or metal?

Traditionally the Cretan Laouto do not have any truss- rods or any kind of carbon-filament strengtheners in the neck. While the scale length (bridge-nut) is a long one, about 74 cm still only a bit less than half of that is the neck, since the bowl is so large and so the issues around the strength of the neck are presumably less than an instrument that has a much longer neck in proportion to the body. The frets are tied and are not metal. Instruments have tied frets partly because it makes it possible to alter the fretting for different modes, but also because it made it possible to accommodate any warping in the neck since there was no truss-rod.

Where are you located?

In the Beautiful city of Melbourne -VIC, Australia.
